BeforeAfterOur last assignment on Photoshop for the semester was to teach the class how to do something that we did not know how to do on Photoshop. My teacher encouraged us to do something that we thought would be somewhat challenging. She encouraged us to look at some Photoshop tutorials online. I have always wanted to learn how to and how people created a collage just using one simple picture. Well after I did some research I discovered how I did it. Here are the steps on how to make your picture into a collage:
1. Open the photo in which you choose to create the collage with.
2. Go to the layers panel in the right hand corner of the screen above the history panel. Select the background layer and press ctrl J. This will duplicate the background layer.
3. Add new blank layer between background and copy.
When layer 1 is selected press the new layer button located on the layers panel.
Make sure to press ctrl and then the new layer button.
Layer 2 will go between the other layers.
4. Fill new layer with black. Make sure layer 1 is selected and also the selected color:
Select the paint bucket tool.
Press ctrl then fill the space in layer 2 with black.
You want to pour the paint bucket on the layer 2 in the layers panel.
5. Add new blank layer:
. Select layer 2 and click the new layer button again
6. Drag out a rectangular marquee selection tool and place it on the inside of your first picture:
Draw a box around the center of your photo.
7. Fill the selection with black:
Make sure the blank layer is selected and press alt backspace. This will make the selected area black.
7. Create a clipping mask from the filled selection:
Click layer 1. Then select layer in the menu --> create clipping mask. or alt ctrl G.
8. Add new blank layer above layer 2:
Click layer 2 then new layer button. It will then create layer 4
9. Drag out another rectangular selection as the border:
10. Fill selection with white layer:
Select layer 4. press ctrl backspace to fill with white space.
Press D to deselect control
11. Add drop shadow layer style.(you will not be able to see it at first):
select layer 4
select layer style icon
drop shadow
make angel 120
opacity 30%
12. Rotate the picture
select layer 3 and 4
select layer 3, then hold down the shift key and press layer 4
free transforms handles will appear around photo
ctrl t will bring up the options to move and rotate photo. you can crop the photos and move them around.
13. Group all three layers that make up the photo:
click shift then layer 1. Once they are all selected press ctrl g which will put them all in group 1
14. Duplicate layer group:
click new layer
right click group 1 and select duplicate.
15. Move and rotate second picture with free transform:
open up the group 1 copy
by opening & clicking the triangle where group one copy is
click one layer then press shift and click the other layer
then drag it out until it is placed where you want it. press enter when it is placed where you want it.
16. Add, move and rotate more pictures:
drag the top layer down onto the new layer
continue to duplicate and copy groups
select layer 3 & 4 by selecting layer 3 and then shift and press layer 4
press control T and move the picture where you want it to be placed.
17. Repeat step 16 as much as needed to make the collage.
If you follow all of the above steps then when you are finished you will have a collage of your photos.

PAWS boot camp advertisement!
We are still working with Photoshop in computer class. After we created our logo we then had to create an advertisement for our club or company. We were asked to incorporate our logo in our advertisement. I chose to make an advertisement for boot camp. It is a fitness camp held at Mercy for anyone to participate in. The camp is supposed to be similar to an army boot camp. The camp is held from November 22-30th from 6am to 7am in the Mercy gym.
We were also told that while creating the advertisement in Photoshop that we had to use 10 tools. Some of the tools that I used were when creating the paw I used the ellipse tool to draw the circle that makes up the paw. I also used the ellipse tool when creating the paw prints. I used the paint brush tool to paint and fill in the paw print. I used the text box tool to write the writing on the advertisement. I used the move tool to move around the paw print so that I could make it fit right. I also used the clone shape tool so that I could make sure that all of the paws were the same size. When messing up I used the eraser tool to erase my mistakes. I used the color tool when changing the color for the paw prints. I used the crop tool for the background army print. I used the swatches tool for the colors that I chose. I had to create the paw prints on a separate document so I used the drag tool to drag it from one document to another. I stretched the paw prints out using the scale tool so that they would fit to scale.
I created this advertisement in hope of getting Mercy students, teachers and the community to come join in on a boot camp class. My goal is to start to promote fitness and wellness in our community which is what paws is all about. The target audience was mostly everyone. It was mainly Mercy students just because the event was through Mercy, but I also hope to spread the word and get people outside of Mercy to participate. I think that there are not many or enough opportunities for people to exercise in our school or in the community.

PAWS logo
In computer class, we are still working with Photoshop. Our task this time was to create a logo for a company that already exists but does not have a logo. It did not have to be a company it could also be a club or sports team that you are a part of. I chose create a logo for Paws. This is a club at my school. The club stands for Promoting Active Wellness in Student.
After creating our logo on Photoshop we were asked to answer questions about our logo. The first question was how does your logo communicate its purpose? My logo communicates it purpose by it is a paw print. Inside the paw print it says paws. Inside each individual paw it states something you can do to stay well or fit. Even though there are not visual images of how you can stay well there are still words that you can see, that remind you how to stay well and fit. Also at the bottom of the logo it says Promoting Active Wellness in Students which is what paws stands for.
Another question we were to answer was why you chose the colors you chose. I chose the color blue for one reason being that blue is the color of our school. The other reason was because blue stands for confidence. By seeing blue some people might believe in themselves and have confidence to stay fit and exercise.
How did you use some of the elements in your logo? One of the elements I used was the shape. I drew a shape for the hand of the paw print. I also drew a circle for the paws of the paw print. I used the balance element. I balanced out all the space in the logo. I also made sure that there were no empty spaces in the logo and that it all balance out.

Celeberity Photoshop face swapping
In class we are continuing to work with photoshop. We got an assignment that was assigned to us. We had to pick a celebrity of a picture that we like. The celebrity that I chose was Carrie Underwood .We also had to take a picture of ourselves. We uploaded the pictures to photoshop. The picture of us we were able to touch up our picture and add make up. We then cropped out our hair and placed our face on the face of the celebrity. After we finished the editing of the photo we were asked to answer questions about our transformation. The first question was what we feel about the overall transformation of our picture. I think that the transformation of my picture was good, but it could have been better. It looks fairly natural, but there are some spots where I think it looks like the skin is not matching on the face.
My perspective of pictures in magizines has changed drastically. Before I never thought anything of people using photoshop and changing the way someone looks. I knew that yes they did edit the pictures, but I did not know that they did it so much that it made the person look like a completely different person than before. It's crazy how much people really think of today’s view of the perfect body image. Everyone always thinks that the people shown in magazines really look like that in real life. In reality that is not true. The people in these magazines have all been edited in photoshop to make them look skinny or prettier. Really most of these people are not as pretty as they look or as skinny.
Something’s I did really well on were that I think I changed the eye color and made it look real or look like that, that’s the color of my eyes in real life. I also think I did really well on putting the mascara on my eyes. Considering how I did it and what tools I had to work with. I think it looks pretty natural. I actually had to draw them on. It was pretty hard to get them all even and to look the same on both sides. I think that I could improve on the color of the skin transformation from mine to Carrie Underwood’s. I think that in some spots you can tell that my face was place over top hers because if you look at it closely you can see where parts are darker than others. I also think that I could improve on the redness of my face. In some spots by the nose there is a little bit of redness.

Photoshop! It’s a great program but man it can be hard thing to learn how to use. Over the past couple weeks in computer class we have been learning how to use Photoshop. We have also been learning the elements of photography. An assignment we had to do was to make a collogue that depicted A Day in the life of a Mercy student. We had to use Photoshop and use at least 5 of the Photoshop tools to arrange, crop and change our pictures. The pictures could be of anything that has to do with the life of a Mercy girl.
In my collogue I have all sorts of different pictures like my car, trip to New York City, our junior ring ceremony banner and all other sorts of pictures that have to do with my life and Mercy. To make this collogue look better I used several different tools. One of the tools I used was the crop tool. I used the crop tool on the library, computer class, English class, my car, class banner, locker, cross, mercy crest, and my prom picture. The reason why I chose to use the crop tool on all these was because I thought that some of the image needed to be cut out and by cutting part of the image out I thought that it would make my collogue fit more together. I also changed the color in the library, computer, English, car, banner, locker, creed, and the prom picture. By changing the color of the pictures it allowed the picture to have a little more quality and to look better. Another tool that I used was the red eye tool. I used it on the prom picture. Before the girl to the far left had red eyes and by using the tool her red eyes were eliminated. I used the retouching tool on my face in the prom picture also.
We also had to apply the elements that we learned in class to the pictures that we took. Some of the elements that I used in my collogue were balance in the cross picture. I made sure that when I took the picture that I balanced out the space around it. I also balanced out the space in the picture of the car. At first I did not think Photoshop was going the be fun but now that I have learned how to use it, it is a wonderful program to use and is very helpful for touching up pictures.

My element of photography
In class we have been learning about the elements used in photography and how to apply them when taking photos. We have also been learning how to use photo shop which more about that will come in my later blogs. Today I am going to show you an example of three different pictures using three different elements.
This picture is an example of framing. This photograph would be an example of framing because the house in this picture is framed inside of the window. It frames and focuses just on the house itself.
This picture would be an example of action. My dog is in action he is running with a dog toy in his mouth. There is space in front of him for him to continue the action of running.
This picture would be an example of the element of lines. In this picture there are several forms of lines. There are lines on the floor connecting the tiles. There are lines in the cabinet. There are also lines on the back of the chair for the back rest.

Copyright Poadcast
In class we were to partner up with 2 or 3 other people in the class and make a podcast on copyright. The podcast had to have a situation in it dealing with copyright and what the person did and what the consequences were. Our podcast podcast was about a lady who illegally downloaded music from a program called frost wire which used to be called lime wire. She was caught and was charged with a fine which was 250,000 dollars.
The picture we have as our podcast picture is not copyrighted. We made this picture in Microsoft Paint and did not steal anyone's idea. Therefore it is not copyright infringement. Our music we chose in our podcast does not infringe on any copyrighted material also. The music we chose came from Garage Bands library. All Garage Bands music is listed under public domain. So, in our Podcast we are not breaking any Copyright laws.
We were given questions to answer about downloading music and copyright. Is downloading music wrong? Downloading music can be both wrong and right. It all depends on how you download it. If you buy a CD in the store and then go home and make a backup copy of your CD in case something happens to yours is the right thing to do. If you buy music from iTunes and make a mixed CD of all your songs for you to listen to where ever is the right thing to do. The wrong thing to do would be downloading songs from frost wire that would be the wrong thing to do because you are not actually paying for the song you are illegally downloading it onto your computer.
Should copyright laws exist? I think yes copyright laws should definitely exist. If copyright laws did not exist then artist and song writers would have no form of protection for their work. Anyone and everyone would be able to copy their work. The person who actually did the work would get no credit for it because other people would try and claim it and say that they did the work when really they did not
How would I feel if someone used my podcast or graphic without permission? If someone tried to use my work form my podcast I would be very mad and upset, because I spent so much time on it and the person who took it did not spend any time at all and there taking it and calling it their own work. There also taking it without my permission to take it.
Why is piracy so prevalent in our society? I think piracy is prevalent in our society, because many people are not really educated on what copyright infringement is and what is not or what they can and can’t download. Also I think that some people just don’t care that are committing copy right infringment. They think that they won’t get caught.

If you do your own work you will not be accused of Copy Right Infringement
The word copyright has many different definitions and many people think that it means many different things. The way most people get their definition of copyright is the way they were taught it, but one thing that everyone should know is that it is ILLEGAL in so many ways. At first I thought copyright just meant that you simply just asked permission to use or copy that persons work. Later I found out that I was wrong in a way but I was also right. The definition of copyright is the legal right granted to a person by law for publication, production, or distribution of their own work to other people.
For homework we were to talk about our thoughts on copy writing and to find an article that shows an example of copyright infringement or Internet piracy. In this article I found a picture of Obama that was drawn by the artist Shepard Fariey. The artist copied off of a picture that was taken by the Associated Press. The artists took the same pose and facial expression from the photo from the associated press and added some other things and called it her own work. She is breaking the law by using part of a photo from someone else and using it in her own work. The punishment was that Shepard Fariey was sued by the press for using the same pose of Obama that they had originally created themselves. I think that the punishment is unfair because Shepard did not copy the pose the way it is she added something’s and changed somethings. She used different colors and added the word hope. This would be her own work. She also added a pin on Obama's suit.

The Future of Our world with technology
Hello, I am about to post my first blog ever. So please bear with me if I make any mistakes I apologize. This year as a senior I am taking Computer and Technology Applications II. I took computer and graphics part I freshman year. I am a little behind in this class because I just got put in it today from another class that I dropped so I am trying to catch myself up. As the first blog entry I am to talk about my views and experiences with technology inside the class room as well as outside the class room.
The first question I was asked to answer is, how I have used technology at home and in school? How I use technology at home is that I use the computer to get on facebook or a lot of times i have to use the computer for research or writing a paper for school. In school I use technology in the library to research for specific classes or use the virtual library for writing papers. Another question I was asked to answer was what are your beliefs about the future of technology, specifically, how do you envision people using technology in the future? Every year our technology grows and expands. My beliefs about technology in the future are that I think technology is going to be the only thing used. There will be no more writing things on paper, doing homework on paper ect. One example of this would be that last year as a junior I did my math homework on paper and wrote down the answer and the teacher checked it from the paper. This year my math homework is on the computer through a program called Math XL. My teacher can give me problems and I can work out the problems and submit my answer. She can then go into the program and see that I did the problem and see if I got it right.
Another thing that I think we will use with technology is turning off and on things like the light switches. I think that there will be a remote or button that you press and the lights with come on automatically without having to flip a switch. I also think that recharable cars will come more popular although we already have some I think they will become more common and then re chargeable cars will be all that they make.
I hope to be able to experience all the new and fun technology creations in my life time. I can say that I have experienced new technology. I remember when I was younger about fourth or fifth grade texting first became popular and it was the coolest thing ever at the time. Everyone was getting it and using it like it was going to go out of style. I also remember when the iphone came out for the first time. Man that was definitely a BIG hit! I remember when I was first taught how to use a cell phone it was by my older brother. Of course at the time he was at that age where he was cooler than everyone else and he always got so frustrated when I did not know what he was talking about or doing. Now I am the one who had to teach my mom how to text and use the phone. My dad on the other hand could care less if he even had a cell phone.
I must say that the future of technology could also be a bad thing. Children and adults could get to adapted to the remote control switches and always do it from where they are sitting instead of getting up. I think that new technology could also lead us into more obesity problems than we have today.
